Resume: Natural alternative treatment of acne with TTO.
Acne is a chronic skin disease characterized by inflamed spots and black spots on the face, neck, back and chest.
Acne is usually consecutive in hypersecretion of sebum, obstruction of follicles followed by bacterial infestation. Classically known origins can be hereditary, medicated as the pill or hormonal during puberty.
There are 2 types of acne that are: retentional acne (pilosebaceous follicles distended) and inflammatory acne (papules and pustules, and deep are called nodules). Treatments in conventional medicine are well known, such as benzoyl peroxide solutions, retinoids which can be combined with antibiotics for inflammatory forms.
The essential oil of tea tree has several interests in the treatment of acne that can be summarized as follows: 1. a solubilization of excess sebum and its elimination, 2. an anti-inflammatory action, 3. an anti-bacterial action.
The essential oil of tea tree is very interesting because it combines both the preventive aspect and the curative aspect. TTO as a natural ingredient as a major interest in the formulation of cosmetic products for treatment and prevention of acne. Formulations were tested with 5% tea tree and gave significant positive results. Nevertheless, a combination with other antibacterial and anti-inflammatory essential oils can improve the results of a high concentration mono-ingredient formulation. The main limitation of TTO use is the presence of the methyl eugenol allergen, the amount of which is limited in topical products. To avoid this problem, choose a tea tree essential oil with very low allergen content.
